Nearly 58 per cent of over 1.56 crore voters in Delhi on Wednesday exercised their franchise in the crucial Assembly elections in the national capital which were largely peaceful save stray incidents of clashes and allegations of booth capturing, impersonation and bribery.
As voting for the high stake Delhi assembly polls concluded on Wednesday, city voters expressed a strong desire for change, hoping for a fresh leadership approach, while many reaffirmed their trust in the incumbent government.
Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and BJP candidate from the Rohini constituency, Vijender Gupta, along with his wife, Dr Shobha Vijender Wednesday exercised their franchise for Delhi Assembly polls.
Several prominent schools in Noida received bomb threats which later turned out to be hoax on Wednesday, weeks after Delhi schools were targeted in a similar manner.
Demonstrating their respect for senior citizens, the Delhi Police on Wednesday won accolades from the residents of the city for assisting elderly voters to polling booths to ensure their participation in the festival of democracy.
“This fight is for our farmers,” he said, adding: “If UP police do not arrest the union minister's son, I will go on hunger strike. It is my "vachan" (promise)."
The fake candidates' list for bypolls in the state was circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms in the morning today upon which the state BJP had taken a tough stance.
