Students of North Orissa University (NOU) launched a strike and squatted in front of the main gate today protesting against the lack of infrastructure and amenities. Employees , staff and faculty had to wait outside the gate for several hours as the students refused to clear the entrance.
Tushar Kumar Nayak and Rajat Ghose, president and secretary of the students union said the university failed to fulfill their demands despite repeated submission of memorandums and attention through agitations. There are large number of vacancies, the dispensary which was recently opened during the NAAC team visit has stopped functioning.

Other demands like parking places, supply of safe drinking water facility to all departments and hostels, ATM facility, immediate renovation and completion of road to boys hostel, proper security enforcement in girls hostel, full-fledged functional of Gymnasium etc remain unfulfilled, students decried.
The students called off their agitation after the VC Pradeep Kumar Chand, registrar Sadananda Nayak, PG Council Chairman Nakulananda Mohanty intervened and assured to look in to the demands.
