NH-74 scam accused sent to judicial custody

Pantnagar Police produced the main accused of the National Highway-74 scam, DP Singh, before a special district court in Nainital on Friday. The suspended PCS officer was sent to seven-day judicial custody.

DP Singh played key role in the Rs 300 Crore scam- in which high compensation was paid to selected persons by showing their agriculture land as commercial land. Despite making best efforts, the Uttarakhand Police failed to arrest the absconding PCS officer.

For 28 long days the cops failed to trace the main accused of the NH-74 scam and conducted raids in different locations in Uttarakhand, UP and in Delhi. DP Singh surrendered before Special Investigation Team of the state police in a dramatic manner. By walking in the Udham Singh Nagar’s SSP office campus in Ruderpur on Thursday.

Knocking the door and asking, “May I came in sir”, Singh entered the SSP Sadanand Date office. The police officer and staff were surprised with the movie like entry of the absconding officer.

The police grilled D.P Singh for two and a half hour. Many beneficiaries of the NH-74 land scam provided donation to Uttarakhand Congress for the state assembly elections, held in February this year. This hints that the suspended officer enjoys political patronage.

The scam took place in the highway project connecting Rampur to Kathgodam sector and Jaspur to Khatima sector.

Big money was made in the process of acquiring land for construction of NH. By showing the agriculture land as commercial the payment was made to influential persons.
