The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the Narada scam sent notice to Narada CEO Mathew Samuel to appear before it on 28 February for further interrogation on the Narada scam.
After months of lay off, the CBI which was appeared to have developed a cold feet on the on-going investigation, sending notice to Mathew Samuel to appear before it, assumed significance.
CBI sources, however, said issuing summon to Narada CEO is part of the ongoing investigation~which the latter had sought to defer on earlier occasions on account of his health-related issues.
“He is key to the scheme of things with regard to the investigation on the alleged beneficiaries of the Narada pay-off scandal that had rocked the state during 2016 Assembly polls,” said a senior officer of the agency.
Interestingly, Samuel who conducted a sting operation masquerading as a businessman had alleged that as many as 11 top-ranking leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress were alleged beneficiaries of the scam and the Central agency too had launched inquiry lodging an FIR against them to unravel the truth of the allegation.
The agency sources said inquiry in the scam is almost complete barring some grey areas which we like to be cleared about. When quizzed about whether the Calcutta High Court’s recent observation on the agency’s probe relating to the pen drive, hard discs that allegedly belonged to Narada CEO had a bearing on the probe, the source, however, declined to comment on the “sub-judice” matter.
Meanwhile, the agency has also sent notice to alleged middleman in the scam Syed Tazdar Ali Mirza alias Tiger Mirza for further interrogation. Tiger Mirza was the go between the Kolkata Municipal Corporation deputy mayor Iqbal Ahmed and former IPS officer SMH Mirza in the alleged scam.
