A murder convict serving life sentence was apprehended by a team of the Interstate Cell of the Crime Branch, Chanakyapuri after he jumped parole, the police said on Monday.
Vijay Kumar, 45, who hails from Mathura (UP), was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2010 after being convicted in a double murder case registered at the Police Station Keshav Puram in Delhi. He was released on parole in 2021 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was initially granted parole for 90 days before extending it to 2023. However, after the completion of his parole period, he failed to surrender and has been evading arrest since then. He was eventually arrested from Alwar, Rajasthan, where he relocated recently from Palwal.
The case dates back to February 2002, when the convict, along with his accomplice Narender and others, was involved in the murder of a man named Prem, a truck driver from his village, and Prem’s helper, Sanjay. The victims were strangled to death following a family feud. A case was registered under Sections 302 (murder), 380 (theft), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
Following his arrest, Vijay Kumar has been sent back to Tihar Jail to serve the remainder of his life sentence.
