The Western Railway cancelled AC local services on Friday after the air-conditioner stopped working in three coaches of a Mumbai local train.
Commuters travelling in the Virar-Churchgate AC suburban train brought it to a halt at the Andheri station after pulling the chain on Friday morning after finding that the AC was “not functioning”.

The passengers of the three coaches said they experienced suffocation and sweating due to the non-functioning AC.
“Ever since the local train left Borivali station, we found that the coach was not cooling. Initially we thought that the AC would start soon. But despite crossing few stations on the way, there was no sign of it,” PTI quoted a passenger as saying.
“Since the doors of the coaches of this particular local have to be kept shut for air-conditioning, there was no ventilation, which led to suffocation and sweating. When it became unbearable, we pulled the chain and made the local stop,” he added.
The Western Railway, which operates this AC local, later tweeted that the AC stopped functioning due to technical glitches, adding that the train would not operate until the restoration work was over.
“Due to technical problem in working of AC in 3 coaches of AC local, the services of AC local has been cancelled today till further repairs. Inconvenience to commuters is highly regretted please,” the WR said in
the tweet.
Western Railway chief spokesperson Ravinder Bhakar said the train operations would start as soon as the technical problems in the three coaches were fixed. “Otherwise, it will remain off for the entire day today,” he said.
The WR had cancelled the AC Mumbai local service for maintenance work last Friday too.
WR introduced the first AC local in Mumbai on December 25, 2017. It operates 12 AC services daily on the Churchgate-Virar corridor from Monday to Friday.
