Cong’s show of admiration for Ambedkar nothing but drama: BJP
The BJP on Monday accused the Congress of invoking Bharat Ratna Bhimrao Ambedkar's legacy for its political purposes.
The direction of not arresting BJP leader Mukul Roy in connection with a murder case will continue till 31 March, the Division Bench of Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj of Calcutta High Court directed on Tuesday. The direction of extending the not to arrest order was passed when the petition of Roy seeking anticipatory bail in this case came up for hearing on Tuesday.
The court extended the order after additional advocate general, Avratosh Majumdar and public prosecutor, Saswata Gopal Mukherjee sought more time to collect material for the matter. The matter will come up for hearing on 15 March.

On 31 January, the Calcutta High Court directed police not to arrest BJP leader Mukul Roy in relation to a complaint over the death of his political mentor, Mrinal Kanti Singha Roy, in January 2015. Roy, who was then a Trinamul Congress Rajya Sabha MP, was directed by the court to cooperate and appear before the investigating officer as and when asked.

The Division Bench directed the state to produce all medical records relating to the treatment of Singha Roy and his death certificate on 14 February, the next date of hearing. Roy had moved for anticipatory bail before the Division Bench of Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj.
Appearing for Roy, his lawyer Asish Sanyal said Singha Roy had met with an accident in 2011 and died in 2015. The FIR against Roy, he said, was the worst kind of political vendetta. State additional advocate general Abhrotosh Majumdar said: “The FIR in this case was lodged by the orders of a magistrate under 156(3) CrPC.
Police didn’t lodge any FIR on their own and were merely abiding court orders. How than this be a political vendetta, then?” The court passed orders insulating Roy from any arrest till 14 February.
