MCD removes 2.64 lakh posters, banners ahead of Delhi assembly polls

In its effort to implement the directives of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in view of the coming assembly election, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday stated that it has removed a total of 2.64 lakh posters, banners, hoardings, and small boards across 12 zones.

In its effort to implement the directives of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in view of the coming assembly election, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday stated that it has removed a total of 2.64 lakh posters, banners, hoardings, and small boards across 12 zones.

The Model Code of Conduct came into effect on Tuesday after the Election Commission unveiled the dates of the Delhi assembly polls. The national capital will vote for all 70 assembly seats on February 5 and the result will be declared on February 8.

As per the civic agency, this includes a total of 33,319 hoardings, 2,08,278 posters, banners, and wall paintings, 5,180 signage boards, and 17,470 flags.

Stating zone-wise, the data from MCD showed that a total of 7,107 political advertisements were removed from the Rohini zone, 7,171 from the City-SP zone, 19,491 from the Civil Lines zone, 6,178 from the Karol Bagh zone, 9,347 from the Narela zone, 9,237 from the Keshavpuram zone, 14,612 from the South zone, 10,964 from the West zone, 10,114 from the Najafgarh zone, 6,885 from the Central zone, 20,884 from the Shahdara South zone, and 16,071 from the Shahdara North zone.

According to the EC order, any poster, hoarding, or banner in a public place that promotes any political party or leader has to be removed within 24 hours of the announcement of the election schedule.

Earlier on Wednesday, the civic agency reported that it had removed 1.26 lakh posters, banners, hoardings, and small boards across its 12 zones.
