NGT clamps fresh ban on sand mining in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district
The existing interim DSR, which was being used to justify sand mining, was invalid as it had not been submitted to SEIAA for approval, the NGT reiterated in the order.
Mayurbhanj district administration has taken an initiative for abandon babies. The initiative ‘Baby Cradle Point’ was inaugurated by collector Surendra Kumar Meena here on Thursday.
The cradle point has been set up in the premises of Pandit Raghunath Murmu (PRM) Government Medical College and Hospital(MCH) with the help of the District Child Protection Department.

Collector Surendra Kumar Meena said it is a good step taken by the district administration for abandon newborn.

The object of Baby Cradle Point is it will provide proper care and safety to the infant. Hospital authorities and the child protection department of the district will manage the cradle point, said the collector.
“We have decided to set up the baby cradle point in the hospital premises apparently avail of all security measures for the abandon baby. After the baby’s caring in the point the baby will be rehabilitated by the child help line in the district,” added collector Meena.
Mamata Mayee Biswal, district child protection officer (DCPO) said number of such cases are reported from the district where parents and woman dump baby in isolated places. The cradle point will take care of such newborns.
