Polling to the first phase of the Manipur State Legislative Assembly was held on Saturday amid tight security in 38 assembly constituencies out of the total 60 assembly seats.
As many as 1,643 polling stations were set up in the 38 constituencies that went to polls for the 11th State Legislative Assembly on Saturday. Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Phezerol districts went to polls in the first phase.
As many as 837 polling stations were identified as hyper sensitive and 529 as sensitive by the Election Commission (EC).

A total of 168 candidates were in the fray, of which only six candidates were women.
There are 5,44,050 male and 5,75,220 female voters for the first phase. There are around 45,642 new electorates.

The newspapers are Sangai Express (Manipuri and English editions), Poknapham, People's Chronicle, Naharolgi, Thoudang, Imphal Free Press, Echel Express and Huiyen Lanpao.
– Polling to the second phase will be held on March 8 and the result of the Manipur polls will be declared on March 11.
