A man in Bengaluru was arrested on charges of drug peddling in an operation launched after he filed his Income Tax return. The man, Rachappa, was arrested by the Koramangala police in the city on Monday, 29 January, along with one of his associates, Srinivas.

The 34-year-old Rachappa worked as a migrant construction worker but had filed an I-T Return of Rs 40 lakh, rousing suspicions of the I-T department when he could not give a satisfactory account of his income.

The department then tipped off the police, which kept an eye on Rachappa’s activities.

Police found that Rachappa was allegedly dealing in marijuana and had a network of people under him who worked as suppliers and agents. The marijuana was supplied all over the city.

Acting on a tip-off, Bengaluru police threw a net to nab Rachappa and his associates. They were able to arrest him with 26 kg of marijuana and Rs 5 lakh in cash.

The police said that Rachappa and his associates have been in this business for long. They have allegedly made crores from the drug dealing. Rachappa hails from Chamarajanagar while Srinivas hails from Chandpura.
