His family, wife and mother-in-law claimed that he died due to heart attack. However, this created doubt among public and police. Police finally found the reason and persons involved in the murder.

The couple had a son (12) and a three-year-old daughter. During the last couple of years, they were not pulling well together. The domestic fight was a constant affair in their family. “We found this bit of information helpful during investigation,” said IIC Lahunipara P Meher.

She said, “Besides, the other information we received from the villagers who allegedly raised fingers at her conduct.” Sukumari, was managing a stationary shop near her village Khuntgaon.

On the day of the incident, Jaladhara came home in the afternoon along with the vehicle’s helper. The helper remained in the vehicle and Jaladhara went in for food. “After some time the helper heard voice of female crying and he rushed inside and found Jaladhara dead,” said the IIC.

“Sukumari told him that her husband had a heart attack and probably died,” said Inspector- in- charge. They soon took him to Lahunipara hospital. The mother and daughter duo told doctor that he was feeling uncomfortable and later lost his sense. “The doctor found him dead and soon after the two managed to bring the body back,” said Meher.

The next day morning they were preparing to complete the final rituals. “I received a call that there was something fishy in the whole thing,” said Meher.

And she arrived there and found the dead body and the family crying. “Both of them and also the paramour Satyanarayana Rout tried to convince me that it was due to heart attack,” said Meher.

Finally, police seized the body and sent it for post mortem. The police traced the helper who spilled the beans saying he had been threatened by Satyanarayana Rout not to tell anyone that the three had killed Jaladhara with a GI wire.

The thin black line of strangulation with the wire was not visible on the first day as Jaladhara had several folds in his neck. “The fold actually hid the thin black mark, which became clear after the post-mortem,” said IIC. And finally the trio accepted their crime before police.
