Bhojpuri film playback singer, actor and music composer Pawan Singh has been chosen as the BJP candidate for the prestigious Asansol Lok Sabha seat.
He will fight against the sitting MP and TMC candidate, another popular veteran film actor Shatrughan Sinha.

Mr Sinha defeated the BJP candidate Agnimitra Paul by a margin of over three lakh votes in the by-election in 2022 to wrest the seat for the first time in history for the TMC.
The seat became vacant after another Bollywood playback singer, Babul Supriyo resigned and quit from his MP post and later joined the TMC.
In 2014, Babul Supriyo contested from Asansol and the BJP won only two seats, Asansol and Darjeeling, but the Asansol seat on its own strength. The then PM candidate of NDA Narendra Modi urged the voters during his election campaign ‘mujhe Parliament mein babul chahiye’ (I want Babul in parliament).
Speculation was rife that either Mithun Chakraborty or Jitendra Tiwari, the former AMC mayor or Agnimitra Paul would contest from Asansol.
Already Shatrughan Sinha has started his poll campaign and his wife Poonam Sinha is also holding meetings with top leadership of the party in the district.
It will be a tough contest this time for the BJP to wrest the seat from the TMC and the party is banking on the image and popularity of Narendra Modi and Ram Mandir, as the saffron brigade has failed to find an alternative of immensely popular Babul Supriyo in Asansol, since his exit.
Since the past two days, the name of Pawan Singh was doing the rounds as the official candidate of BJP for Asansol and in the first list of candidates published his name has already figured.
