Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) has sought a list of dangerous buildings and heritage structures from Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) enroute of the ongoing metro projects between Sealdah and Esplanade.
There are many dangerous buildings, heritage structures and congested places en route the metro projects where precautionary measures will be taken before constructing the tunnel to prevent any further damage to the buildings, a senior KMRC official said.
A 2.5 km stretch between Sealdah and Esplanade stations is more congested than the previous stretch from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade station and the KMRC officials will face real challenge for constructing the tunnel under the stretch, the official said.

“Still we did not get the list of dangerous buildings from the civic body,” a senior KMRC official said. Senior KMRC officials convened a meeting last week with the transport department officials, civic officials for speedy completion of the tunnel.
The KMRC officials have also started to identify dangerous buildings or dilapidated structures and heritage structures.
For buildings that have already developed cracks, the KMRC engineers will mark the cracks and will take note of it so that owners of the buildings later cannot blame the KMRC officials and demand any compensation, the KMRC official said.
Work on the Esplanade- Sealdah stretch, last phase of the tunnel, will start by May this year after the KMRC officials takes all precautionary measures.
