To conserve the environment and to make Haryana clean and green, Haryana Chief Minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday launched a state wide Plantation Campaign from Narwana sub-division of Jind district.
Under the campaign to be carried out from July to August this year, school students from Class VI to XII would be involved, who would plant one sapling each during rainy season and they would also be responsible to take care of these plants.
On this occasion the CM flagged off more than two dozen tractors and trolleys loaded with plants. He said that under this plantation campaign, children could plant the saplings at their school, courtyard of their home, canal, streams, parks or any other public place.
Children would also give name to the plant as per their choice on the name of their ancestors, great men, Guru or family members or their own name with date of plantation specified on it.
Khattar schools would encourage the students to ensure the survival of the plants. After every six months the plants would be inspected and Rs 50 would be given for three years after every six months which can be spent for the maintenance or for providing manure to their plants. If due to some reason the plant dies, the student could continue participating in the next plantation campaign by planting another plant.
Thus this campaign would be interesting for these children like participating in a game, the CM added. He suggested to plant at least three plants by every student – one in the name of their grandparents or parents, one in the name of their teacher and one in the name of environment.
The CM said in the Indian culture, planting the saplings is an age old tradition. Especially on the birthdays of children, marriage anniversary or on any other important occasion one should plant the sapling.
It would help in bringing a balance in the climate and in preventing global warming. Under this campaign both fruits bearing and shade providing plants would be distributed to the children.
