Punjab Assembly’s move to pass a resolution to condemn the release of an audio clip related to a drug case against AamAadmi Party (AAP) leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira created a much hue and cry among AAP legislators on Wednesday. The uproar began soon after the Parliamentary Affairs Minister BrahmMohindra moved the resolution against the LokInsaaf Party (LIP) legislators and brothers, Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Singh Bains, while requesting the Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice to take a suomotocognisance of it. The Bains brothers had released an audio recording claiming it to be a conversation about payment of Rs 35 lakh to a high court judge for action against AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira in a drug smuggling case.

Reacting to the move, Khaira said he was already assured for justice by the High Court Chief Justice on Tuesday. “Are you trying to obstruct justice in my case,” he said in the open House, adding that the House should have supported him. Khaira even said, “Hang me if I am found guilty, but do not obstruct justice in my case”. Khaira also reiterated that he himself was demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the case.

Khaira alleged the House was saving those who had paid Rs 35 lakh to implicate him in the case. Meanwhile, Mohindra defended the move while saying, “We are not after you and are just pleading your case by asking the Chief Justice to take cognisance of it”. On the other hand, the AAP legislator KanwarSandhu said instead of holding a discussion, a resolution was being moved against those exposing the case. With the House accepted the proposal, AAP and LokInsaaf Party legislators staged a walkout.

Later, taking to the media persons, AAP and LIP legislators said it was a political conspiracy. “I could not imagine the CM stooping so low. They have misused the Assembly and unleashed political vendetta against me”, he said. Khaira went harsh on CM while questioning former Pakistani journalist AroosaAlam’s role in the CM’s official residence. “How a CM of state can allow her to live in his house.

Nation’s security is breeched by this practice”, he said. Khaira said by passing this resolution Amrinder Singh is trying to save RanaGurjeet or the other persons involved in it. “I doubt who has done this 35 Lakh bribery scandal but today by passing this resolution ,this clear evident that this bribery scandal is done by RanaGurjeet”, Khaira alleged.
