The Kerala Government has decided to explore legal options to thwart the Centre’s move to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the country.

The state Cabinet, which met here on Wednesday, decided to explore legal options to challenge the Centre government’s framing of rules to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act(CAA), 2019 in the country.

The Cabinet has asked the Advocate General (AG) to explore legal options to challenge the CAA notification in the Supreme court

The state Assembly had in 2019 adopted a resolution demanding that the Union government repeal the Act that sets religion as a criterion for Indian citizenship.

Meanwhile, the protests against the CAA continued in Kerala for the third day on Wednesday.

Hundreds of Congress workers marched to the Raj Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday to protest against the Centre’s notification of the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules. Opposition leader VD Satheesan launched the march.

The DYFI workers blocked train services at the Alappuzha railway station on Wednesday. They stopped at Thiruvananthapuram- Lokmanya Tilak Express. The protesters were later arrested and removed from the railway track by the police and Railway Protection Force

Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, the Democratic Youth Federation of India(DYFI), and the Indian Union Muslim League(IUML) have moved the Supreme Court against the implementation of the CAA.
