UP: Kasganj violence is shocking, says Akhilesh Yadav

AKHILESH YADAV

Two days after clashes between two communities claimed one life, the situation in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district is still tense. In the latest development, as many as 112 people have been arrested, while security forces personnel intensified vigil in the area.

Former Chief Minister reacted on the situation on Sunday and said that Kasganj violence is very shocking and unfortunate.

“Such an incident and that too happening on Republic Day was very unfortunate. Violence has no place in democracy,” said national president of Samajwadi Party while talking to reporters in Etawah.

“People of different communities should respect each other. SP during its tenure worked to strengthen the ‘Ganga-Jamuni’ tehzeeb (culture) of the state. Our schemes were implemented without discrimination. Both Hindus and Muslims have worked hard to take the state forward. We demand action against the culprits responsible for inciting the violence but at the same time injustice should not be done to innocent people,” he added.

Launching an attack on ruing Bharatiya Janata Party, he said, “BJP believes in dividing people on communal lines, and there is a long history of this party dividing people for its political gains. In the last 10 months of its rule, the BJP succeeded in creating a void between the two communities which is dangerous.”

On Friday, clashes erupted following reported stone pelting at a motorcycle-Tiranga rally by VHP and ABVP volunteers on Mathura-Bareilly highway on the occasion of Republic Day.

A 16-year-old boy, Chandan Gupta, was killed and at least two persons were injured in clashes on Republic Day.
