Journalist molested in Kolkata: Two sent to judicial custody

Two youths arrested on Wednesday on charges of molestation of a woman journalist of The Statesman was on Thursday sent to judicial custody till 14 February. Investigation is in progress to nab the other accused, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bowbazar police station Siddhartha Chakraborty said. On Wednesday, the woman journalist was molested in front of the rear gate of The Statesman House by a group of men hailing from Metiabruz.

Two members of the group were taken into custody by Bowbazar police, while a search operation was launched to nab the other members of the group. While the victim journalist was walking towards Chandni Chowk metro station with her colleagues, a youth coming from the opposite direction molested her. The youth then tried to get away from the scene of his crime with his three companions. Two members of the group managed to escape, while two others, including the molester, were caught by the journalist’s colleagues in front of the office gate.

Her colleagues informed the Bowbazar OC and a contingent of police came and took the duo to Bowbazar police station. An FIR was lodged at Bowbazar police station by the journalist against the arrested duo ~ Rocky Halder (18) and Sheikh Abdul Kadir (19). They are said to be residents of Metiabruz, as were the other accused. They were on Thursday produced before a city court that remanded them in judicial custody till 14 February.
