In hiding for over a month, Honeypreet Insan arrested by police in Punjab

Finally, after over a month, Honeypreet Insan, adopted daughter of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was arrested by the Haryana police on Tuesday in connection with the violence erupted after the conviction of the sect head in the rape case on August 25.

According to the police, Honeypreet who was wanted for sedition, inciting violence and other charges, arrested from a highway near Zirakpur in Punjab.

She was evading arrest for nearly past 38 days in the said case.

Sources from police said that she would be produced before the court on Wednesday.

A close aide of Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving 20-year imprisonment in a Rohtak jail for raping female followers, Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja tops the list of 43 people wanted by Haryana police in connection with the violence erupted in Panchkula and Sirsa in August, 2017.

It was August 25 when the Dera chief was convicted by the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Panchkula in the said case. The sect’s head conviction was followed by violence in many Haryana parts mainly in Panchkula and Sirsa leaving nearly 41 people dead and more than hundreds injured.

Following the violence, Haryana police booked several DSS officials and spokespersons for inciting violence and waging war against the state.

Later on, Honeypreet was also booked at Sector 5, police station in Panchkula. His name was added in FIR number 345 as an accused in connection with the violence took place on 25 August.

Notably, after the Dera chief’s conviction, Honeypreet accompanied Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the chopper when he was taken to Sunaria jail in Rohtak from where she was reportedly escorted by the police to an unknown destination in the city.

Nearly, a week ago, the Delhi High Court has also rejected the transit anticipatory bail plea filed by Honeypreet.

The police had to issue ‘Lookout notice’ for Honeypreet and Dera associates on September 1. Later on, she was declared proclaimed offender, even international alert was issued and a search was conducted to find Honeypreet, however, hours before her arrest from Punjab’s Zirakpur area, she appeared before the media refuting all allegations against her.

She also announced to surrender before the police.
