The Met department has warned of heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorm at isolated places over coastal Odisha starting 9 October.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that lightning and hail storms are very likely at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir.

According to the IMD, squally winds with speeds reaching 4555 km per hour will pass over Odisha coast.

The speed of wind will reach 65 km per hour will very likely gust over deep sea areas of central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal and along and off Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of the Bay of Bengal till 12 October.

The change in the weather is due to the likely formation of a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal.

On Monday, the Odisha government had directed District Collectors to remain alert over the likely formation of a cyclonic storm.

In a letter to all District Collectors, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) ordered all officers to remain in headquarters and not to avail leave till the situation is over.

“In view of the cyclone forecast, please alert all concerned and keep the administrative machinery in full preparedness to meet any eventuality. All officers to remain in headquarters and not to avail of leave till the cyclone situation is over,” said the letter.

The SRC also asked officials to monitor the situation closely.

Meanwhile, the IMD also warned that squally winds speed reaching 65-75 km per hour gusting to 85 km per hour will hit west, central and adjoining southwest Arabian Sea.
