The low visibility resulted in delays of over 200 early morning flights and cancellation of 10 airplane journeys, the airport authority said.

Due to the fog, several trains to and fro New Delhi and satellite stations were running behind their schedule, leaving passengers stranded at the railway stations. As per the railway department, at least 17 trains were running late ranging from 30 minutes to 400 minutes. This includes two Duronto class, several superfast and mail, express category trains.

IMD, in the weather forecast, issued a yellow alert in the national capital for three days of moderate to dense fog and a dip in mercury levels also.

In response to the chilly weather, residents of the capital were seen gathering around bonfires, while others took shelter in night homes as temperatures continued to drop.

Many north Indian states also experienced similar weather on Monday morning with dense layers of fog and cold wave.
