V K Singh to assume Mizoram Governorship on January 9
General Vijay Kumar Singh, former Chief of Army Staff, will officially assume office as the Governor of Mizoram on January 9.
The winner of high stake Gurdaspur parliamentary seat will be announced on Sunday, which has increased the anxiety among many politicos. However, the ruling Congress party has claimed to clinch the seat with a huge margin, the other two opponents, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to have hoped for a winning show.
The counting of the voting will begin at 08:00 a.m. and is likely to end by 12:00 noon. “We have made all the elaborate arrangements at the counting centres. The counting is expected to be over till afternoon. The employees deployed at the counting centres have been given clear instructions to not allow any third person inside the prohibited premises,” Chief Electoral Officer, VK Singh, told The Statesman.

Congress candidate for Gurdaspur bypoll, Sunil Jakhar claimed that Congress will win the contest with over one lakh margin. He said he was not anxious, but confidant about his win. “Despite the opposition trying to spoil the work spirits of the state government people have full faith in the government. People want the development in Punjab and have full faith in ruling government,” he said.
On the other hand, state BJP Secretary, Vineet Joshi said his party was confidant of winning the election. “The poor performance of Congress led state government has come to the fore in the past six months. The people have shown their support for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it will be seen in the results. BJP will win the by-elections with a huge margin,” he said.
