The Delhi High Court on Thursday rejected a BJP MP’s plea to reassess the threat perception against him and enhance his security cover to the Z category. The court decision came after the Centre stated that the protection provided to him was adequate.

Justice Mukta Gupta was told by the Ministry of Home Affairs that the MP from Kurukshetra (Haryana), Raj Kumar Saini, was provided ‘Y+’ security in 2016 and the current level of security given to him was assessed and found to be adequate.

The Centre was represented by its standing counsel Manish Mohan.

In his petition, Saini made the contention that he felt threatened in view of the fact that he had been opposing the demand for reservation by a particular community having been involved in the widespread agitation in Haryana.

He further pleaded that the state government had withdrawn prosecution proceedings against the members of the community involved in agitations and riots and then released these people.

The petitioner moved the High Court alleging that he made a representation to the Central Government in February for getting his security reassessed but he received no response in this regard. He, therefore, sought directions to the Centre to reassess the threat perception in his case.
