To prevent the rightful share of waters belonging to India from flowing back to Pakistan and bring economic prosperity to the farmers of the state, the Centre is preparing to stop the water from flowing back to Pakistan by constructing three dams, the Haryana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said on Monday.

In a statement, media in charge, Haryana BJP, Rajiv Jain said both BJP governments at the Centre and in the state are working hard to quench the thirst of parched lands of Haryana by bringing the due share in river waters to the state.

“The roadmap disclosed by the Union minister for water resources, Nitin Gadkari, during the 3rd Agri Leadership Summit for bringing this water, has given great hope to the farmers of Haryana,” he said.

Jain said this would prevent the rightful share of waters belonging to India from flowing back to Pakistan, and bring economic prosperity to the farmers of the state.

“Significantly, India got the waters of Sutlej, Ravi and Beas during the Partition, whereas Sindhu, Jhelum and Chenab rivers went to Pakistan. But the waters of Indian rivers continued to go flow to Pakistan. Now the BJP government at the Center is preparing to stop the water from flowing back to Pakistan by constructing three dams,” he said.

Jain said the previous Congress and Indian National Lok Dal governments always used Sutlej-Yamuna-Link (SYL) Canal and Hansi-Butana-Link Canal as a ladder to political power, but the present BJP government has made earnest efforts to bring Haryana its due share in the river waters.

Haryana would urge Punjab to make a detailed project report for the construction of Ravi-Beas Link Barrage-II to prevent the flow of 1,112 cusecs of water into Pakistan.

With the progress of this project, Haryana will get 21 per cent water under the agreement between Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. This will give a major relief to the farmers of the state, especially in southern Haryana, he
added.

Jain said due to the sustained efforts made by the state government, progress has been made to bring the water through Satluj Yamuna Link canal to the state and the efforts would continue until the SYL is built in Punjab, he added.
