The release of candidate lists by all the major political parties for Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017 has led to dissent among some of the party cadres who are threatening to spoil the prospects for its candidates during the polls to be held on December 9 and 14.

No party is untouched by these so-called rebels who are trying new tricks to get onboard, if not by request then by coercion and fielding rebel candidates against party nominees.

The latest in the long list is Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) OBC strongman Prabhatsinh Chauhan who had demanded a ticket for his wife Ramilben Chauhan from Kalol assembly seat. But the party leadership declined his demand that upset him. Thereafter, he threatened the party of protests by his supporters and even the prospects of his wife fighting elections as an Independent.

BJP MP from Patan, Liladhar Vaghela, had asked for a ticket for his son from Deesa assembly seat in North Gujarat, which was also declined by the party. Meanwhile, supporters of another leader Jagdish Panchal in Kheralu had barged into the local BJP office, threatening the party leadership of mass resignations if their candidate was not accommodated.

Bharuch district panchayat member, Vijaysinh Patel, also quit the party, protesting against Ankleshwar assembly seat being denied to him and given to Ishwarsinh Patel, the sitting MLA from the seat.

Meanwhile, followers of state BJP vice-president IK Jadeja, who has been denied ticket from Vadhwan seat, created a ruckus at the state BJP headquarters, asking for a ticket for Jadeja from Dhrangadhra.

AAP leader Kanu Kalsaria has also decided to fight the coming state assembly polls from Mahuva as an Independent candidate. Kalsaria said though he had not resigned from the party, he would not work for AAP during the coming polls.

Kalsaria said, “I have not officially resigned from AAP. I have told the party leadership that I am contesting independently from Mahuva. They told me to do whatever I feel right. For now, I am not a member of AAP and I will not be working for it during this election.”

Meanwhile, the Congress has released their list on Sunday and its repercussions are yet to be seen.
