The police on Friday busted an inter district gang of thieves and arrested seven of its members. Three others of the gang are on the run. Police said they also seized four motor bikes, two country made revolvers, 13 mobile phones, live cartridges, four bank ATM cards, cash of Rs 3000, gold and silver ornaments and explosive materials from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Sourav Sahoo (24) of Nihalprasad, Dhenkanal, Dipriranjan Parida (26), of Kalan Paikarapur in Jajpur, Ajaya Kumar Rout (23) of Khandabanda in Dhenkanal, Rajesh Kumar Dhal of Nihalprasad in Dhenkanal,•Dibyajyoti Sahoo (20) of Jajpur Road (23), Sagar Behera (25) and Pankaj Behera (26) , both of Danagadi in Jajpur district.
Joint police team comprised of Panikoili, Korei and Dharmasala police stations busted the gang after getting a tip off on Thursday night that a group of youths were assembled on the Deuli hilltop under Dharmasala police station limits in the district and planning to commit dacoity in the area.

They used to target bike riders on the NH 16 and NH 200 and rob them at gun point. So far, they have admitted to having robbed or snatched around 28 cases along highways in Jajpur and Dhenkanal districts, he said.
