The flood situation in Assam’s six of the affected districts remained critical Sunday with the Brahmaputra river and some of its tributaries maintaining a rising trend, official sources said.
There has been no casualty in this wave of flood so far.
The current wave of flood has affected 1,42,335 people in the districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Golaghat, Majuli and Dibrugarh, according to a report by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger level at Nematighat, Tezpur and Dhubri, the Dhansiri in Golaghat and Jia Bharali in Sonitpur.
The authorities of the affected districts have set up 26 relief camps where 585 people have taken shelter so far.
The current wave of flood has damaged 11,532 hectares of crop land while 14,384 big animals, 7,341 small animals and 5,548 poultry have also been affected, the ASDMA said.
Infrastructural damages of road and bridges have been reported from Lakhimpur district and is being assessed in other districts, it said.
The floods have been caused owing to incessant rains in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh that raised the water level of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries downstream.
Earlier this year, 52 people lost their lives in floods and landslides.
