At least five persons were injured when an under-construction bridge over Jira river in Odisha’s Bargarh district collapsed on Sunday, officials said.
The mishap occurred when a slab was being put on the bridge at Jamudola in Bheden block, informed sources said.
The injured have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bargarh.
District Collector Khagendra Kumar Padhi, who visited the hospital, ordered an inquiry and assured of action on the basis of inquiry findings.
The Works Department was constructing the bridge under the Biju Setu Yojana at an estimated cost of Rs 8.50 crore, the sources added.
It is the second incident of bridge collapse in the state within a fortnight. One person was killed and a dozen others were injured when an under-construction overbridge collapsed in Bhubaneswar on September 10.
