Odisha struggling with shortage of doctors
The national average of doctor-population ratio stands at 1: 811 while the World Health Organization's prescribed norm specifies the posting of one doctor for 1,000 people.
Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) doctors on Tuesday held a protest opposing the National Medical Council (NMC) Bill.IGMC Resident Doctors Association (RDA) president Ajay Jaryal said that the doctors in Shimla staged the protest to express solidarity with the doctors pan India, opposing the NMC Bill 2017.
The Bill has various shortcomings which include allowing those who have studied alternate medicine to practice allopathy after six months bridge course which is anti-patient and anti-healthcare.

The merging of Ayush with modern medicine will pose a potential threat to the patients, he added. He appealed to the public to support the doctors so that the quality of healthcare in the country is not affected, which is dangerous and will have a serious implication. The NMC 2017 seeks to replace the Medical Council of India with a new body.
