As she departed Siliguri for Kolkata after a tour of north Bengal on Friday, chief minister Mamata Banerjee became the two-millionth passenger to use the airport in Siliguri in the current fiscal year.
There has been a significant growth in the number of passengers at the airport for the past few years. “The airport has crossed two million passenger mark in the 2017-18 financial year.

According to him, the airport presented Miss Banerjee a memento to mark the milestone on Friday. “You are the two millionth passenger at Bagdogra Airport for FY 2017-18. Thank You,” the memento said.
Airport officials said there is 50 percent growh in passenger traffic at the airport so far this fiscal. “Popular tourist destinations in the region, including the Hills and the Dooars and the state government’s decision to waive off the aviation fuel surcharge are reasons for the surge in the footfall,” Mr Sahay said.
It may be mentioned here that in a notification issued by the Airports Authority of India on 15 February, the Instrumental Landing System (ILS) would be functional at Bagdogra Airport from 29 March.
The facility that will allow early morning and late evening landings and take off at the airport is considered a major development at the airport. “We apprised the chief minister of the ILS facility operations and thanked her for helping acquire and provide the land required for the same,” Mr Sahay said.
