Haryana government has marked an investigation into the matter pertaining to 14 dead bodies being allegedly given to a private medical college in Uttar Pradesh (UP) by Dera Sacha Sauda without attaching any death certificate and government’s permission.
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij told The Statesman that he has asked to Director General (DG), Health Services, Dr Satish Kumar Aggarwal to look into the matter relating to handing over of nearly 14 dead bodies by the Dera to the medical college in UP without any paper work.
Vij said that the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sirsa has also been asked to visit the Dera in this regard and find out the truth behind the reports.
“According to the reports, it has been alleged that nearly 14 bodies were handed over by the Dera to a medical college in the UP. It has been alleged that the dead bodies were sent without paper works. If it so, then it was illegal,” he said.
The matter is yet to be investigated and any further action in this regard would only be taken after the inquiry of the matter, he added.
The minister revealed that these dead bodies were sent to UP before the violence took place in Panchkula and Sirsa of Haryana on August 25, when the Dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted by the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court for raping his female followers.
According to the reports, these dead bodies were given by the Dera to the UP’s medical college between the month of January to August this year.
The matter surfaced when a committee of Central government visited the medical college in UP and found that nearly 14 cadavers were obtained by the college from Dera Sacha Sauda without requisite permission and death certificates.
The Centre took a serious view of the matter and asked the concerned authorities to look into it. The controversial Dera based in Haryana’s Sirsa is again in news with its head Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been sentenced for 20 years in jail for raping his female followers.
