Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Thursday filed a complaint with Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena alleging irregularities in 24 hospital projects in the city.

Gupta met the LG on Wednesday and urged him to initiate a probe into the alleged corruption. He has denounced the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s ‘world-class’ health model as a “facade and a center of corruption”.

Urging the LG to investigate the alleged involvement of AAP leaders, Gupta said, “24 hospital projects, approved at a cost of Rs 5,590 crore, remain incomplete, leading to a dramatic increase in costs.”

Highlighting that in the construction of seven ICU hospitals, estimated to cost Rs 1,125 crore, he said, “There were major financial irregularities and substantial corruption. Despite three years passing, only 50 per cent of the work has been completed, causing the costs to more than double.”

“Out of 94 planned polyclinics, only 52 have been built. The cost of constructing these 52 polyclinics has unexpectedly risen from Rs 168.58 crore to Rs 220 crore, with many remaining unused,” Gupta said.

Accusing the city government of corruption in the construction of a block at LNJP Hospital, he said, “The contract for this block was valued at Rs 465 crore, but after four years, only 60 per cent of the work has been completed, and the cost has soared to Rs 1,125 crore. The project has been stalled for the past six months.”

The Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly also accused the government for failing to utilize funds provided by the Central Government, particularly Rs 2,406 crore allocated under the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) for establishing modern labs and ICU centers.

“Instead, the Delhi government outsourced its lab services, leading to significant corruption,” he said.

Gupta further said, “To address this health care scam under Kejriwal (government), the BJP legislative group, led by him, met with the head of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on August 22 and submitted all relevant documents. The ACB has initiated an investigation into the matter, and the complaint has also been filed with the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).”
