Sun eluded Delhi as the city shivered on Friday with the temperature pegging below the season’s average by several points.
The city woke up to dense fog and recorded a minimum of 7.1 degrees Celsius, a notch below season’s normal. The maximum temperature was recorded at 14.2 degrees Celsius along with the presence of winds at 7.4 km/hr speed.
According to the weather department, the lowest temperature during the day was recorded in Salwan School area which was 11.9 degrees Celsius, eight notches below the season’s average.

Passengers at railway stations and the airport continued to face delays of trains and flights due to the heavy fog during the early hours.
Several flights and trains ran late due to the affected visibility because of the thick fog cover.
Cold day conditions prevailed across the city on Friday, the weather department said, while the weatherman has forecast ‘dense to very dense’ fog and ‘cold to severe cold day’ for Saturday.
According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), in the coming two days, the wind speed is likely to increase further, and stay between 6-14 km/hr.
“The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from northwest directions in Delhi with wind speed 6-14 kmph and mainly clear sky with shallow to moderate fog in the morning on January 21,” it said.
The MeT department, in its update, said, “Minimum temperatures realised during past 24 hours of 0830 IST of today are in the range of 2-5°C in isolated pockets of north Rajasthan, south Haryana; in the range of 6-10°C over most parts of Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, UP, remaining parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.”
