Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee, who is also the president of the Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress, said here on Friday that during the last three-anda-half years, Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi and the BJP government at the Centre and the MCDs had only been making allegations and counter-allegations against each other without doing any constructive work.

She said in the whole world when people talk about long-lasting sustainable development, in Delhi the state and Central governments took a decision to fell 16,500 trees. She wondered what kind of development it was. Sharmistha Mukherjee said that felling of such a large number of trees would severally affect the already polluted Capital.

Addressing a news conference at the DPCC office here, Sharmistha Mukherjee held the BJP and AAP responsible for the decision to axe nearly 16,500 for construction of government flats in Sarojini Nagar and Nauroji Nagar. She pointed out that the Environment Department of Delhi and the Delhi Pollution Control Board had given permission to cut the trees.”

She added the Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress would hold a demonstration on 2nd July to protest against the decision to cut trees. Among others present at the press conference was senior leader Chattar Singh, Delhi Youth Congress president Vikas Chikara, Delhi Professional Congress convenor Yasmin Kidwai, Delhi Professional Congress vice-president Yogesh Sachdeva and chief media coordinator Mehndi Majid.
