77th anniversary of Poonch link-up with India celebrated
The 77th link-up anniversary of Poonch with the rest of India was on Friday celebrated by the Army and civilian population of the border region.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday urged people to resolve to keep the society safe, recalling the brutal gangrape and murder of a physiotherapy student in Delhi five years back.
“Remembering #Nirbhaya on the 5th anniversary of brutal Delhi incident. We cannot compensate her loss but let us resolve to keep our society safe,” Banerjee wrote on Twitter.

Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi also took to Twitter saying, “Where do we stand now? Worse off, NCRB data proves that” and added “Bahut hua mahilaon par waar- Lagataar Lagataar. Kyun khamosh hai Modi Sarkaar?”.

The 23-year-old woman was gangraped on December 16, 2012 in a moving bus in Delhi, and later died in hospital.
The incident triggered outrage and protests across the country, and she subsequently came to be known as ‘Nirbhaya’, the fearless.
