Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has urged the Lt Governor of Delhi to seek report from Delhi’s Chief Secretary on the availability of coal in Delhi for thermal power production besides the coal purchase orders placed by the Arvind Kejriwal government with production agencies.

Tiwari has alleged that the Kejriwal government was trying to stall thermal power production at the behest of its private partners in power discoms.

He said the power purchased by power discoms from the National Grid during peak hours falls short of the needs of the city and is fulfilled through local thermal power production.

The cost of thermal power production in Delhi is much higher than the power purchased through National Grid or other states like Haryana, he said alleging that the private partners in power discoms were thus not interested in the thermal power produced in Delhi.

“At their behest the Arvind Kejriwal government is floating stories that there is acute shortage of coal in Delhi and soon city may witness power shortage but truth is that the shortage is self-created by Kejriwal government by reducing coal purchases,” Tiwari alleged.

He claimed that Indian Railways have already clarified that they are ready to supply to Delhi as much coal as the local government wants from it. “Kejriwal government has all through last 3 years filled the coffers of its private partners in power discoms through subsidies, and is now aiding their propaganda of thermal power production failure in Delhi so as to help them increase their profits,” alleged Tiwari.

“The Lt Governor should ensure that the Kejriwal government is not able to create any artificial power crisis in the city,” Tiwari demanded.
