The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to ensure the immediate arrest of criminals who were involved in Sunday night’s attack on TV journalists in Delhi.

The AAP also urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to hold a meeting to review the security situation in the national capital to address the concerns of the people who, it claimed, were feeling scared because of the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi.

Addressing media persons over the law and order situation in Delhi, AAP’s Delhi unit convener Gopal Rai said, “If journalists are not safe while travelling at night on a professional assignment in the national capital, one can easily imagine the plight of the common man.”

He claimed that there has been no improvement in the law and order situation in the Capital despite the BJP coming to power at the Centre for a second time with Narendra Modi as Prime Minister.

The alleged attack on TV journalists occurred around 1.30 am when Siddharth Purohit, who works for a TV channel, along with his cameraman Arvind Kumar and driver Chandrasen, was travelling on the Barapullah flyover in their office car for a reporting assignment.

Their car was followed by two men on a motorcycle and the pillion rider allegedly brandished a weapon at them, following which the car driver tried to escape.

The pillion rider then fired three rounds at their car, none of which hit them and they managed to get away. They found some policemen standing at a barricade near the INA Metro station and reported the incident to them.

They claimed that the policemen, instead of helping them, removed the barricades and left. They then made a PCR call but the PCR van responded after two hours.

“Such insensitivity by the police called for a review of the law and order and the security situation in the Capital immediately,” Gopal Rai said.
