It is the festive season and Delhiites are all set for the six-day long Durga Puja celebrations with the usual gusto, enthusiasm, and religious fervour.

Revellers and merrymakers are ready to be decked in their best attires on Sunday, October 14, the day marked as Maha Panchami. The Goddess would be invoked in the evening through what is known as ‘Bodhan’.

Bangiya Krishti Samiti, a premier socio-cultural organisation based in Sector- 15 Rohini will be holding the festivities from October 14 to October 19, its 27th year of Durga Puja celebrations.

Fancy and magnificent clay idols of the Goddess which are crafted and painted with bio-degradable materials are the centre of major attraction.

“A sizeable number of devotees throng during Puja and they expect more grandeur with each passing year. Living up to those high expectations requires effort. From the decorations to security and organising events, everything has to be meticulously planned and monitored,” said Shibashish Chatterjee, one of the members of the Puja Samiti.

“This year too, we have arranged various cultural events and competitions scheduled for devotees. Residents actively participate in a variety of events like cultural shows, sports, quiz programmes, antakshari, food festival, musical chair, conch blowing etc. organised during puja days,” he added.

The culture of Bengal will come alive on the stage as eminent singers like Saberi Bhattacharya from Mumbai, and Rik Basu and Arfin Rana, famous singers of ZEE Bangla SA RE GA MA PA fame from Kolkata will enthral the audience. Prominent dance troupes will also perform on mythical as well as contemporary subjects. In all, a little Bengal will enlighten the festive scenario of North Delhi area.
