The IMD forecast “dense fog” during the early hours of Thursday with the minimum and the maximum temperatures hovering between 7 and 19 degrees Celsius respectively.

The weather in Delhi continued to be chilly on Wednesday while the city witnessed traces of rain at Safdarjung and light rain in the Palam area in the early hours.

The minimum temperature settled at 8.3 degrees Celsius at the Safdarjung observatory, a notch above the season’s average. However, the cold winds continued to make people feel the winter chill.

According to the Weather Department, some places witnessed moderate fog in the early morning, limiting the visibility up to 200 meters till 9.30 am.

The cold day conditions prevailed during the day even as the sky remained partly cloudy, as per the weatherman, and the maximum temperature here settled at 18.3 degrees, three points below the normal for the season.

With the sun hardly showing up there was not much respite for the Delhi’ites from the cold.

The wind speeds recorded between 6 to 8 km/ hr, as per the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).

Meanwhile, the average Air Quality Index (AQI) on Wednesday entered the ‘severe’ zone with a value of 409, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said. However, as per the air monitoring agency IITM, the AQI level is likely to come down to the very poor category on Thursday.

“The air quality is likely to be in severe category on 24.01.2024. The air quality is likely to be in the Very Poor category from 25.01.2024 to 27.01.2024. The outlook for subsequent 6 Days: The air quality is likely to remain in the Very Poor category,” IITM’s daily bulletin on air quality for Delhi said.

For Thursday, the weather agency has forecast “dense fog” during the early hours, while the minimum and the maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 7 and 19 degrees Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, some places in the NCR witnessed dense fog and traces of rainfall.
