BJP national general secretary in charge of West Bengal, Kailash Vijayvargiya, on Saturday claimed that the party would win more than 250 seats in the 2021 assembly elections in the state.

The BJP leader made the claim while welcoming about 17 councillors of Darjeeling Municipality into the party fold on Saturday here. All the councillors were earlier part of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM). BJP state leader Mukul Roy was also present.

Speaking to the media, Vijayvargiya said he was sure of the party winning more than 250 seats in the 2021 assembly polls in West Bengal and bringing to an end the reign of political violence in the state. He slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her decision not to attend the 15 June Niti Ayog meeting terming her move ‘undemocratic’.

“West Bengal has had a history of political violence. The BJP will bring an end to this. The arrogant attitude of TMC will be reined in. Leaders from GJM have also joined the BJP. I am sure of the BJP winning more than 250 seats in 2021 assembly polls in West Bengal,” Vijayvargiya said.

Today’s development came close on the heels of a fresh round of clashes between BJP and TMC workers during a BJP thanksgiving rally in West Bengal in the wake of the party’s impressive showing in the Lok Sabha polls. The BJP, which has won 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats has claimed that it would uproot the ruling TMC from power in the 2021 assembly polls.
