An auto driver was choked to death inside his auto by an unknown person after robbing him of his mobile phone late at night in Central Delhi.

The incident occurred in the area of Kamla Market on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, when the deceased was said to be sleeping inside his auto parked near Zakir Hussain College, police said.

The incident has been captured on a CCTV camera installed near the spot. The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Nadim, 35, a resident of Chitli Kabar near Jama Masjid, Delhi.

His body has been handed over to the family after conducting the post-mortem examination. A case of murder has been registered by the Kamla Market police and investigation has been initiated based upon CCTV footage.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi), Shweta Chauhan said that information about the incident was received at Kamla Market Police Station on Wednesday at 1.06 am from Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital.

The caller stated that one Mohammad Nadim was admitted in the hospital in an unconscious condition and has been declared dead by the doctor.

Immediately a police team reached the spot. On spot inspection and based upon the MLC and PM primary report, the police came to the conclusion that the deceased was murdered. An investigation into the matter was taken up.

During investigation, CCTV footage of the spot was checked, in which one unknown person is seen entering the auto at about 11.16 pm and seen coming out of the auto at 11.31 pm.

Further during preliminary examination, the mobile of the deceased was found missing. Police are carrying out raids to nab the accused involved in the crime.
