An integrated M Phil and PhD course student from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) who had been reported missing for the last four days, has “returned” on Thursday, police said.

The student “returned” on Thursday and said that she had “gone out”. She is yet to give further details, they said. Earlier, a case was registered under section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person) of the Indian Panel Code (IPC) on the complaint of her parents.

“The missing student has said that she had gone out on her own. She is fine,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Southwest, Milind Dumbere.

She is in Lucknow. The woman was constantly being contacted on her cell phone by police officials but it was switched off, another officer said.

However, she contacted the Inspector investigating the case after she switched on her phone and found several calls and messages from the officer, police said.

She informed the personnel that she is fine and had left on her own.
The inspector also asked her to inform her family members that she is fine. Subsequently, she informed her parents too.

She is a student at the School of Life Sciences at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

The 26-year-old JNU student Pooja Kasna, a resident of Ghaziabad, was last in contact with her parents on 10 March.

However, from 11 March her phone was switched off/unreachable, prompting her parents to visit the hostel, where they found her hostel room locked.

Police said that after her family’s attempts to trace her did not yield results, they lodged a complaint.

The matter is being probed, police said.
