In a major relief to the commuters travelling on the ring road between Dhaula Kuan and Azadpur, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday inaugurated the Moti Nagar flyover.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister pointed out that people travelling between Dhaula Kuan and Azadpur, and between Delhi and Haryana’s Rohtak, will benefit from the flyover.

The three-lane flyover will also provide significant relief from traffic jams, Kejriwal said, adding that people would experience a smooth travel once the Club Road flyover, which is under construction, would be operational by the month of July.

The CM said the past decade, the AAP Government in Delhi built 31 flyovers, effectively doubling the count since independence. “In the last nine years, we have constructed 7,500 kilometres of roads,” he claimed.

Delhi Minister Atishi, who was also present on the occasion, added that there would be a reduction of 6 lakh litres of fuel and 50 thousand tonnes of carbon dioxide pollution on a yearly basis.

As he dedicated the flyover to the people of the city, Kejriwal said his government was continuously working on all fronts and in every area, and section of the national capital.

Kejriwal highlighted the benefits of the flyover, noting that what used to be a half-hour ordeal to cover a mere half kilometre due to traffic congestion will now be a breezy three-minute journey.

Elaborating on the development, he said the Moti Nagar flyover is just a small component, and the bigger and primary component, which is the Club Road Flyover, will be ready by July of this year.

The Delhi CM also claimed in the last 75 years after the Independence, a total of 63 flyovers had been constructed in Delhi while the AAP, during 10 years of its tenure has built 31 flyovers, which was due to the determination of the present Delhi government.

“We have built excellent government schools for children. The middle class and the poor were forced to send their children to expensive private schools, and now, the middle class and the poor no longer need to send their children to expensive private schools,” he said.

The AAP chief further claimed that many people are now withdrawing their children from private schools and enrolling them in government schools, which was due to the better results of the government schools. “Now, children in government schools are becoming doctors, engineers, and lawyers. These children have been provided a better future,” he added.

Addressing the residents of Moti Nagar and nearby areas, PWD Minister Atishi said, “Everyone is well aware that earlier, one had to spend more than half an hour to cross this stretch of the Ring Road. Today, with the inauguration of this Moti Nagar flyover, people get great relief from traffic congestion.”

This will also save travel time, amounting to approximately 9,000 man-hours, annually, she added.
