After surprise check, Gupta questions govt on dismal state of public utility centre
Gupta was speaking after a surprise inspection of a public utility centre at a slum in Krishna Nagar Assembly constituency in East Delhi.
The minister also mentioned that opposition and ruling party are on the same page in this matter which concerns water issues of the national capital, and are seeking solutions for peoples’ problems.
During the special session held in the Delhi Assembly on Friday regarding sewer overflow and water supply problems faced by the residents of the city, Water minister Atishi informed the house that she will order an inquiry in the matter and fix accountability for the same.
Speaking in the Delhi Assembly on the issue of water and sewer problems, she informed that during the past week as directed earlier, the Chief Secretary did take initiatives and works were undertaken towards fixing sewer and water related issues to some extent, while the CS also assured that further problems will also be fixed in this connection.

She further said that it has been observed that due to lack of coordination between Delhi Jal Board , Urban Development and Finance Department since over an year, the problems have started coming up, and the brunt is on the public.
The house has given a deadline of March 22 to the CS, asking the top official of the city to present a report of solutions to the identified problems and issues in this regard.
Atishi also said that all this mismanagement of issues needs to be investigated and accountability needs to be fixed.
During the session a resolution was also brought with regard to issues such as contaminated water supply, overflow of sewers and leakage of pipelines and their short term , long term solutions.
The same was passed with voice vote by the house.
It was also discussed during the session that long term solutions for those issues that have been temporarily fixed, are required and need to be worked upon.
Atishi also informed the house that work for de- silting of the peripheral and trunk sewer has been initiated, and soon the house will also be informed about the timeline set for the work.
She said directions have been given regarding construction of drains in the areas where they are not in place and also make appropriate arrangements in those where drain water is diverted to sewers, which causes overflow.
It has also been asked to ensure coordination between MCD and other agencies to the concerned authorities and also make arrangement of required manpower and machines so that those areas where work will be done for making drains etc, the people do not face issues while the construction is underway.
