The Sanskrit department of Calcutta University( CU) has denied all allegations of embezzlement of funds.
The departmental head Satyajit Layak said they have submitted their explanation to the vice-chancellor( VC) after receiving complaints against the seminar they organise every year on 12 April.
The vice-chancellor talking to The Statesman said, “I have met the head and asked him whether they are conducting any seminars which does not have any validation. The HoD said that he has recently obtained post of HoD and that the seminar is being conducted from 2015.”
Professor Layek though did not wish to make any official statement said, “ We have submitted our answer to the VC and as to the claims made by the complainant, he is an outsider, why will we answer to his claims?”
The department, on their part has also informed that the charges made by the complainant about the endowment lecture are also not true and that the “necessary approvals were received from all concerned authorities” and finally the “university agreed for an endowment” and the memorial lecture was organised.
The department has also denied any attempts of embezzlement of funds during the seminar organised on 15 January.
The departmental authorities said, that, “ All expenses incurred for any seminar since 2015 were duly approved by the appropriate authorities, following each and every directive, guidelines and financial norms.”
