Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Arvinder Singh Lovely on Tuesday asserted that the party’s fight was not for power, but for the rights of the people.
“Congress’ fight was not for power, but to fight for the rights of the people. Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was not for personal power and glory, but for justice and equality for the people, who were being divided on communal and casteist lines,” he said addressing the party workers in the North East Delhi parliamentary constituency.
The Delhi Congress chief also asked the party workers to make door-to-door visits to explain to the people about the “futility of electing BJP MPs to the Lok Sabha as they neglected the people of Delhi when they needed the help and support of the MPs most during the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.”
Attacking the BJP, he said, “With the BJP in power at the Centre and at the MCD till a year ago, Delhi should have been elevated to a world class city, but unfortunately Delhi’s status only deteriorated to one of the most polluted and ill-kempt cities in the world, which was a far cry from the green and clean city left behind by the Congress after its 15 years of development-oriented governance.”
Exhorting the party workers to consolidate booth-level committees to ensure it earns the faith and confidence of the people, Lovely said, “People are now looking for change.”
It may be mentioned that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress drew a blank.
