Clash in Meerut over wedding procession

Violent clashes took place between Dalits and Jats at Kanchanpur Ghopla village of Partapur area on Sunday night over taking out wedding processions and led to one Dalit being injured.
SP city Maan Singh Chauhan, confirmed that a Dalit had been injured. He said an FIR is being registered in the case and the situation is under control.

Villagers, however, said many others were also injured. Senior police officers, including SSP Manzil Saini, SP city Maan Singh and SHO Partapur Rashid Ali reached there and tried to control the situation.

According to Chauhan, the barat of the daughter of Master Vikram Singh was heading towards the venue accompanied by a band and simultaneously, the barat of Dalit Krishna’s son was approaching from the opposite direction.

There were heated exchanges between the two groups over changing the route. None was ready to take the other route which enraged the Jats and Dalits.
The clash started with stone pelting which damaged a music system and some vehicles while a Dalit sustained injuries. The matter was brought under control only after police intervention.
