CBI to probe journalist’s death

Journalist, Sandeep Sharma.

Two days after a TV reporter, who had carried out a sting on police-mining mafia nexus, was allegedly murdered by being mowed down under a speeding truck in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday announced getting the incident probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Chouhan told some media persons at Bhopal this morning that he would ask the CBI to carry out detailed investigation into the incident. The CM reassured that the state government was committed towards the safety and security of journalists.

The deceased journalist, Sandeep Sharma worked with a TV channel. He had done a sting in the past about the possible nexus between police officials and sand mining mafia.

Sharma was killed after a speeding truck hit him in Bhind on Sunday, while he was riding on a motorcycle.

Reportedly, he had been receiving threats to his life ever since the sting. He is also said to have requested safety from police and had also written to the CM and the state government about the threats to his life.

Meanwhile, the police were able to arrest the truck driver on Monday night. Police said the driver was being interrogated.
