Capt asks PM to head Prakash Utsav committee

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Amarinder Singh has written a letter to the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi requesting him to constitute an organising committee for the commemoration of 550th birth anniversary (Prakash Utsav) of Guru Nanak Dev.

The CM mentioned in the letter that it would be most appropriate that PM heads this committee to impart a sense of purpose to the efforts. He said this committee should be constituted under the aegis of Union ministry of culture to be headed by him.

Amarinder also sought special assistance from the Union government to the state government for both commemorative and infrastructure projects, especially in places associated with the life of Guru Nanak Dev. He informed PM Modi that a detailed report is being prepared and sent to him shortly.

Amarinder apprised the PM the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev falls in 2019 and the Punjab government had decided to commemorate the event in a befitting manner so that the teachings and message of the great Guru could be showcased before the country as well as the rest of the world.

He also pointed out that a state-level committee had been constituted to draw up an action plan and a programme of events.The Punjab government will celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in 2019 on a grand scale.
